
Born May 31,1965 Brooke Shields got an early start in modeling when her mother, an aspiring actress, signed her up for an Ivory Snow commercial when she was only eleven months old. Brooke Shields is still best known for the films "Blue Lagoon" in 1980 and "Endless Love" the following year, in 1981. Brooke Shields put her career on hold from 1983-1987, while she studied and attended college at Princeton University, she graduated with a degree in French literature and did her thesis on herself, basically recounting and speaking openly about her sexuality and virginity. In her personal life, she was married in 1997 to tennis player Andre Agassi but they divorced just two years later. She married for the second time in 2001 to Chris Hency. They have two daughters: Rowan Frances born May 15, 2003 and Grier Hammond born April 18, 2006.
What is Postpartum Depression?
Postpartum depression is a serious illness that can occur in the first few months after childbirth.Postpartum depression can make you feel very sad, hopeless, and worthless. You may have trouble caring for and bonding with your baby. Postpartum depression is not the "baby blues," which many women have in the first couple of weeks after childbirth. With the blues, you may have trouble sleeping and feel moody, teary, and overwhelmed. You may have these feelings along with being happy about your baby. But the "baby blues" usually go away within a couple of weeks. The symptoms of postpartum depression can last for months. A woman who has postpartum depression may:Feel very sad, hopeless, and empty. Some women also may feel anxious,lose pleasure in everyday things, not feel hungry and may lose weight. (But some women feel more hungry and gain weight),have trouble sleeping, andnot be able to concentrate.
So how did this effect Brooke Shields?
Actress BROOKE SHIELDS has lambasted former pal TOM CRUISE for criticising her "misguided" use of drugs to combat her post-natal depression.Cruise - who claims to have helped people fight drug addictions through his controversial Scientology religion - recently attacked the SUDDENLY SUSAN star for becoming dependant on Paxil, following the birth of her daughter ROWAN.
But Shields is disgusted by the TOP GUN star's "dangerous" comments and took a swipe at his Scientology beliefs, by saying she wouldn't take advice from someone who devotes his life to creatures from outer space.
She fumes, "His comments are dangerous. He should stick to saving the world from aliens.
Shields is currently weaning herself off her medication so she and husband CHRIS HENCHY can have another child.

Although I find it sad that she suffers from this condition I do not believe abusing drugs is a proper substitute. Although I fully disagree with most of Cruises' viewpoints I would have to agree that she should not take Paxil for this disorder.
Abusing drugs was not the answer. I feel you could have explained the effect of depression on her life more. Tom's slander against her was uncalled for.
